Rain season second wettest on record in Santa Cruz, National Weather Service says

Published Friday February 10

SANTA CRUZ >> Santa Cruz County’s 2016-17 rain season, which has almost 2 months left, is the 2nd wettest on record, according to the National Weather Service.

From Oct. 1 to Feb. nine Santa Cruz County’s weather station in Capitola recorded almost 37 inches, forecaster Bob Ben said. The wettest season was 1997-98, when the station had about fourty inches during the rain season, which spans Oct to March.

“I think it’s officially called a lot of rain,” stated forecaster Charley Bell of the National Weather Service office in Monterey.

“We still have quite a bit more rain night,” Ben said.
